The Viewpoint: A Culinary Journey with a View

In the neighboring Municipality of Malanang, Opol, Misamis Oriental, about 20 minutes from Cagayan de Oro City, lies a hidden gem for food lovers and nature enthusiasts alike: The Viewpoint Resort Cafe and Resto. As a food photographer and avid foodie, I was recently commissioned to take photos of their menu and some amenities, and there, I fell in love.

My first experience of this resort was just before they opened in May 2023. While the drive going to the resort was smooth, leading towards it’s location when you get to Opol public market was somehow a challenge. The view though as I eased through its wide parking was another story.

Most of the overlooking resorts I have been to, i would dread the road because it was either too steep and our old Mitsubishi Adventure might not be able to handle it. Surprisingly, the ride was a breeze, a little bump here and there and since it was not raining, I got there with no problem and the GPS location was on point.

The resort has a full service restaurant with air conditioned dining, al fresco dining and their crowned jewel - The View Deck area. It has a 180 degree view of Macajalar Bay and Cagayan de Oro City lights twinkle the stars at night. On a clear day, it isn't hard to see Camiguin Island. It is a family resort with play area for children - their swing and Basti’s Tree House named after the family’s youngest son - Sebastian.

They offer Filipino fusion cuisine and my personal favorite is Jolo’s (named after the eldest son (Jose Pablo) Countryside Chicken. This is a complete meal with quarter of a Chicken, a cup of rice and vegetable side dish. One of the restaurant’s highlight is their Boneless Grilled Bangus which one of their best sellers, it is about 300 grams whole Milk fish infused with aromatics wrapped in foil and grilled to perfection. Their restaurant offers a wide variety of Filipino dishes perfect to share with the whole family. I have also noticed that there are couples who book their dates as they offer set ups for special occasions such as birthdays, wedding proposals, weddings and corporate events. Something that they are at advantaged of is the view that their visitors and diners enjoy with a cup of coffee and or a full meal to unwind from the bustle of the City. It was indeed a chill experience, one that I have been enjoying for over a year now as their resident media partner for which I am and will always be grateful for the partnership.
